I've been giving serious thought to what I'll eventually replace my MINI Countryman with in a couple of years, and a Volvo is one of the things I've been considering — maybe an older model XC70 or something.
If you want to keep it small, check out the XC40. Very cleverly designed and will be very affordable on used market once you're ready. Volvo's car subscription service would also be worth a look, though — a single price for the vehicle, insurance, tires, maintenance... everything but gas.
Well, if I want small, I'll go back to a regular MINI Cooper (which I'm also tempted to do!) With two kids, it's a little hard to manage, but once the littlest one is out of her car seat, maybe it'll be an option.

XC40 is definitely bigger than a MINI. That Mini, anyway
